Laurie Desch

Laurie is a singer, songwriter and musician with training in guitar, flute and piano. She has been writing, recording and performing original songs for 30 years. With the help of her husband and two daughters who attended Montessori Farm School, she has performed music for the MFS community since 2018.
In addition to her “grown-up” indie folk music, Laurie enjoys writing children’s songs that range from soft lullabies to whimsical stories of nature to celebrations of social emotional learning. As a music teacher she brings her lifelong passion for songwriting and shares a wide range of children’s music, including traditional and folk songs, songs that incorporate percussion and play, music from past and contemporary children’s artists as well as her own original compositions.
Laurie holds a BA in English from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has worked in education in various capacities as an AmeriCorps member in Chicago, a teacher and counselor at the North Carolina Governor’s School and as a mentor for teenage songwriters. She also loves growing flowers, making art with her hands—be it pottery, quilting, sewing or doll making—and spending time outdoors with her family.
